Motorbike In Winter

On the east side of Little Italy are a series of buildings for the government, housing geology offices and labs. I've been in one of them once to ask a seismologist some writer's questions about earthquakes. During the summer, there's a stretch of sidewalk in front of one of the buildings used to park motorbikes. I was up in the area picking up lunch and dinner one day back in February when I saw this.

This is not the kind of weather you drive a motorbike in.

  1. Well, I suppose it's as warm as a dogsled.

  2. You're right about that, William. I cannot imagine how cold it would be to ride anywhere on the motorbike. Slippery, too?

  3. Love a cycle with a sidecar ! Not that I would want to ride in one... and especially not in your current weather !

  4. Yes, I love sidecars too but I'd rather be driving!

  5. A great looking bike and love that sidecar. I would enjoy taking a ride in it but only in the warmer weather.

  6. Well, you're right, of course. But at least it's got a sidecar which should help stabilize the thing when it spins around on the ice before it hits a tree!

  7. Jane: Hmmm, in this situation, perhaps walking would be a better choice for prolonging life!

  8. Linda: not as stable though!

    Lynette: very slippery.

    Stuart: we don't usually see them on the road until late April.

    Ciel: so would I.

    Denise: the warm weather really does bring ou the bikers.

    Lowell: one hopes that'll work!

    Jane: quite true!

  9. That's odd. We know when summer has arrived when we see our first motorbike.

  10. I have to say, though, that orange is very striking against the white snow.

  12. @Jane and Chris: that's a pretty good sign of the season.

    @Hilda: it stands out very nicely.

    @Tanya: oh, yes!

    @Furry Gnome: I looked it up. A Ural is a Russian bike.

    @Tex: yes indeed!

    @Luis: it's something different!

  13. That's pretty nifty! But, you are right. It would be way to cold for me to take a ride on it.

  15. Coming from the island of motorbikes, with the oldest bike road race in the world I can appreciate the photo, and the brave biker in that weather.

  21. @Beth: thanks!

    @Sharon: I'd be more concerned as to if it can stay on the road in these conditions!

    @Halcyon: I wonder if the driver had their car in the shop and had no choice...

    @RedPat: the wind chill would be a problem!

    @Jane: I do like the bike... even though I'd go with black for the colour.

  22. @Cheryl: not around here! There are plenty of bikers here, but generally you never see these until late April.

    @Jennifer: thank you!

    @Karl: yours was quite unusual!

    @Lauren: I'm used to snowmobiles in winter, but these?

    @Norma: emphasis on cool!

    @Barbara: a very cold ride!
