Setting Up The Tree

A Christmas tree was being decorated in the World Exchange Plaza one weekend, while most of the office workers of the complex were away from work. A curious mix, the tree and the whale sculptures hanging in mid air around it.

This display is on the second floor, and can be glimpsed in the shot directly above. The reindeer in the following shot is back on the first floor, taken on another day.

And now for something completely different, but rather close to the World Exchange Plaza. Here at the corner of Sparks Street and Metcalfe Street, a block south of Parliament Hill, nutcrackers have been set up. Nutcrackers have a rather demented look to them (don't tell my cousin, who collects the things and loves them to pieces), which makes them quite fitting for what's nearby- the sign for the Ministry of Silly Walks, which I've shown you before.

  5. Nice shots, and I do love the 'hovering' whales! You don't see that everywhere! :)

  8. Ha! I guess I have never thought about it before, but you are correct! Nutcrackers do look a bit demented.

  9. Did you do photos of this place last year? The whales look familiar, and since I've never been there....

  13. As usual, I'm off the main topic. The beluga whales are beautiful. Whoever did the sculpture has actually seen the whales and how they move. I've seen belugas many times and they are impressive.

  15. @Whisk: it's an interesting building, architecturally speaking.

    @Cloudia: indeed!

    @Linda: thank you!

    @Revrunner: I've got most of mine photographed, though I'd like to get some church shots in, assuming my camera behaves!

    @Pat: it is a very unusual addition for an office complex.

    @Marianne: they seem to work well together.

    @Tomas: indeed!

    @EG: which fits well with the Monty Python sign!

  16. @Norma: yes, I've photographed here on previous occasions.

    @Nancy: the reindeer (there are two of them across from each other) and the display on the second floor are new this year to the building.

    @Jan: the crew putting it together did a very good job.

    @Janis: it is- it makes for a different photographic subject.

    @Marleen: I certainly think so.

    @Red: there are also a couple of narwhals in here that look very realistic.

    @Sharon: this one and its counterpart, which stands facing it, are big nutcrackers!

    @VP: indeed!

  23. That is a little bizarre the whales surrounding a Christmas tree but I do like it...

  24. The white whales do contrast with the green trees.

  25. The whale and the tree sure are an odd contrast.

  26. Beautiful decorations though I think seeing whales and Christmas decorations together is a first for me. I'd never thought of nutcrackers as looking demented but now that you mention it...I guess it's a case of form and function not being entirely in tune.

  28. @Geoff: the whales are permanent residents!

    @Mari: they definitely do.

    @Jack: very odd.

    @Kay: that's true.

    @Beth: it's the street sign beside the Nutcracker.
